“Echo was an Oreiad nymph of Mt. Kithairon who loved the sound of her voice. Echo helped Zeus to commit adultery with other nymphs by distracting Hera with lively stories that would last long enough for them to escape. After realising the treachery of the nymph, Hera cursed her to never speak again, except to repeat the words of others.”

“She became enamoured with Narcissus, a beautiful man who would live “as long as he does not know himself”, though Echo could not tell him of her love for him, only repeat his last words; “Who are you?” again and again. She appeared to Narcissus but he spurned her advances and saw his own reflection in a nearby pond as he turned from her. He fell in love with his own reflection and drowned shortly after, leaving behind only an echoing voice to haunt the valleys and mountains forever.”
